Pickyheadology..whats that?? its about arts & identity, a passionate celebration the unjustifiably under-celebrated and widen beauty ideals via artistic expression - alongside my obsession is with highlighting the beauty and misconceptions of Natural Afro textured/Curly hair!
As seen through the perspective of me Honey Williams a Singer Songwriter disguised as a Graphic Designer.
its about picky being about your art, fashion, music artistic expression, film....oh and er forgive any typos that are about to ensue.
I’ve been inspired by a play I saw on my recent stay down in London. I made my way down to Sadler’s Wells Dance Theatre in Angel in London FELA! The Musical, I should have seen it ages ago but hey…
‘11 Tony Nominations including Best Musical! The most critically acclaimed new musical of the season. His story inspired a nation. His music inspired the world. FELA! is the true story of the legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, whose soulful Afrobeat rhythms ignited a generation. This triumphant tale of courage, passion and love, features Fela Kuti’s captivating music and the visionary direction and choreography of Tony-Award® winner Bill T. Jones.’
it was just what I needed ….I needed to douse myself in culture, afrocentricity, live music, dance, singers, amazing imagery….immerse myself into an era and country where the ideal beauty and object of the main character’s desire was a black woman (many in Fela’s case). It was an intoxicatingly Nigerian and sophisticatedly raw performance. It has gotten my creative juices bubbling and more original artwork and music shall be birthed from my soul shortly. Here are some beautiful images of some of the amazing performers from the show.
…so yeah in short…..loved it! I sang ‘Water No Get No Enemy’ soooo loud I’m sure Fela could hear me!
